I have been on a seven year journey that began with a failed idea and has ended in the discovery of what I intend to make the cornerstone of every new venture, idea or endeavor I participate in from this point on.
A wise man once said that we learn very little in success but earn a virtual Doctorate through failure. That resonates with me. I have had my share of success but far too many failures. I have continued to ideate and come across phenomenal ideas but they rarely seem to amount to their full potential.
I began to ask the question that every entrepreneur and ideator has asked at some point in time: Why do ideas fail? Heck, why do good ideas fail? I was so sick of seeing the next great product, project or purpose see a vigorous beginning, only to fade off into the distance of mediocrity or failure. After wrestling with mountains of data, writings and opinion, I stumbled onto a concept that would change my life forever.
I am a man of faith and a respecter of science. Just as I believe that there are irrefutable laws of Faith and Physics, I also believe that there are irrefutable laws of Business and Relationships. Through my years in the marketplace I have found a common theme that related to success and the positive movement of ideas:
At the center of every success you will find a pivotal relationship. Conversely, you can trace the cause of most failures to a relationship vacuum or breakdown.
Behind every great company or product, you will find elements that contribute to positive Momentum. Behind every failed venture, there is always the presence of stagnation.
As I began to dwell on this common thread of success and failure, I literally stumbled onto Newton’s Laws of Motion. Newton’s Laws and the concept of Momentum (The amount of motion in an object) made sense to me. They lead me to creating a new concept that I called Relationship Momentum TM.
Relationship Momentum is the art and science of activating ideas through the accumulation of Brand, Value, and Ambassador Equity, creating relational movement in a consistent and strategic direction.
While Newton created the Momentum equation:
Momentum = Mass X Velocity
I took the liberty of applying it to the ideation process and came up with:
Relationship Momentum = The Three Equities X Strategic Velocity
I was looking for a cause and effect solution for the question that has vexed us all. I believe I found it. I tested it against every idea I could think of, present and past and it holds up. While it is not an exact science we are dealing with, as we can not speak to the execution or the strategy involved in the development of an idea, I believe that there needed to be a theorem (a general proposition not self-evident but proved by a chain of reasoning; a truth established by means of accepted truths) for applying certain elements to the laws of business and relationships that we know to be irrefutable.
If you are taking the time to be strategic and deliberate, if you are accumulating weight behind your Brand, Value, and Ambassador Equities on a weekly basis, you are almost guaranteed to win. If you focus on these concepts and apply them persistently, it won’t be long before you see the power of Relationship Momentum beginning to work in your favor, and you will most certainly see your ideas and your endeavors move!
